Trading limits you set

These limits size and block new positions. They apply to the mode that is running. They are not a forecast of profit, and they are not loosened because a day is behind.

The ranges the terminal accepts

A new account starts at 0.5% risk per trade, 3× leverage, 2 positions and a 3% daily loss limit, both directions, with a $10,000 simulated starting balance. You can change them. The form will not save values outside these ranges:

LimitRangeWhat it does
Risk per trade0.1% to 2%Sizes the loss at the stop, before slippage. A wider stop means a smaller position for the same risk.
Leverage cap1× to 10×Caps the position even when the stop is very close. This is your cap, not Kraken's exchange maximum.
Open positions1 to 4Caps how many positions the mode may hold at once.
Daily loss limit1% to 10%After this drawdown, no new entries in that mode until 00:00 UTC. Open positions still follow their exits.
DirectionsLong and short, long only, or short onlyThe system looks for both. A restriction skips the other side.
Simulated starting balance$1,000 to $1,000,000Simulation only. Changing it resets the simulated balance. Default $10,000.

Three presets — Conservative, Balanced and Active — fill those fields as starting points. They are not a recommendation.

When a change takes effect

You confirm that you have reviewed the limits before they save. New values apply to new positions. A position already open keeps the protection it has.

The daily loss limit is measured inside the mode. Hitting it is not the same as pressing Pause: it expires at 00:00 UTC, and Resume is not required. Pause remains available on top of it. See Pause, Resume and Stop.

Other checks can still refuse a trade inside these limits: disagreement, stale data, or a setup that does not clear. The limit is a ceiling, not an instruction to trade. LONG, SHORT and WAIT describes that refusal.

What these limits are not

  • They are not Kraken's margin schedule. Kraken's own maximum leverage on some perpetual contracts is higher. Your cap cannot exceed 10× here, and a single position can be capped lower still.
  • They do not guarantee the stop fills at the stop price. Slippage and gaps can make a loss larger than the risk-per-trade figure.
  • They do not move because of a profit target. A quiet day does not increase them.
  • The simulated balance is not your exchange equity. LIVE is sized from the live account under the same percentage limits.

The longer discussion of residual risk is on your limits and in the risk disclosure.

Questions

Does a 0.5% risk per trade mean I can only lose 0.5%?

It is the loss the size is built around if the stop fills at the stop price, before extra slippage. A gap through the stop, or fees and funding on a live position, can make the result different.

Will the limits increase if I am down on the day?

No. The daily loss limit blocks new entries. It does not raise size, leverage, or the number of positions.
