Kraken Futures
Automation on your Kraken Futures account
Kraken Futures is one of six PERP KING integrations, with Binance Futures, OKX Perpetuals, Bybit, Bitget Futures and KuCoin Futures. See all integrations. This page is the automation guide: what LIVE sends, and how the Kraken key switches map. Status beside the other five is on the Kraken Futures integration page. LIVE automated execution runs on Kraken Futures, Binance Futures, OKX Perpetuals, Bybit, Bitget Futures and KuCoin Futures. The house engine selects the symbol and direction, size follows your equity and limits, and orders are sent with your trading API. After you confirm LIVE, individual trades are not confirmed one by one. Your funds stay at Kraken. PERP KING does not use withdrawal, deposit, or transfer endpoints and does not require those permissions.
The market it trades
PERP KING uses Kraken Futures, the derivatives API at futures.kraken.com. The contracts are linear multi-collateral perpetuals: one contract is one unit of the base asset, there is no expiry, and profit and loss are settled in USD by default. Kraken documents that contract family, including the list of symbols, in its Linear Multi-Collateral Derivatives Contract Specifications.
About 200 of those perpetual markets are watched continuously. Fixed-maturity contracts, spot markets, and Kraken's separate spot API are not the venue. A spot API key will not run this integration.
Kraken publishes a separate contract specification for clients in the EEA, linked from the same specifications page. Margin, funding and contract availability can differ by region and can change. PERP KING does not restate Kraken's margin schedule as if it were our own.
What LIVE does on the account
After you start LIVE, new decisions can become real orders. The sequence for a position PERP KING opens is:
- An entry order is sent for the symbol and side it decided, sized inside your limits.
- A reduce-only stop is placed at the exchange, triggered on the mark price. If that stop cannot be placed, the position is closed rather than left unprotected.
- While it is open, the position is managed. The stop can be replaced — the new stop is placed before the previous one is cancelled.
- The position is closed by the stop, by an exit order when the reason for the trade is gone, or when you press Stop.
Stop closes positions PERP KING opened. Positions you opened yourself, or that were already open before LIVE started, are not adopted and are not closed by that control. Details are on LIVE trading and protective stops.
PERP KING does not send an instruction to switch a position into isolated margin. On Kraken's multi-collateral wallet, cross margin is the default, so collateral in that wallet is shared. Check the margin mode on your own account. Liquidation explains what that means.
The API permission model
Kraken Derivatives keys are separate from spot keys. Kraken's own article describes two switches. General API is No Access, Read Only, or Full Access. Kraken states that Full Access reaches the endpoints except digital-asset withdrawals. Withdrawal API is a second switch: No Access, or Full Access to withdrawals.
There is no narrower "trade only" checkbox on that screen. Trading therefore uses General API set to Full Access, with Withdrawal API left on No Access. PERP KING still only sends order placement and order cancellation. It does not call withdrawal, deposit or transfer endpoints, including if a key were created with more access than we ask for.
| Use | General API | Withdrawal API | What PERP KING sends |
|---|---|---|---|
| View the account | Read Only | No Access | Read requests for balances, positions, orders and fills |
| LIVE | Full Access | No Access | Place order and cancel order only |
Kraken does not provide an API call that proves a key's withdrawal switch is off. Before a trade key is stored, you attest that it can trade and that you have not enabled withdrawal or transfer. PERP KING does not verify that switch. The key is then checked with Kraken as an account read and encrypted. The steps are on connecting Kraken and API permissions.
Funds stay in your account
PERP KING is not a party to your Kraken account. It does not receive deposits, does not custody assets, and does not move funds between wallets. Balances you see in a read-only view are Kraken's balances.
You can delete either key in the terminal or revoke it at Kraken. Removing the trade key is refused while LIVE positions that PERP KING opened are still open: stop LIVE first, so those positions are closed, then remove the key. You can also revoke the key at Kraken immediately; a resting stop that was already accepted remains at the exchange until Kraken cancels or fills it.
Independent of Kraken
Kraken is a trademark of its owner. PERP KING is not affiliated with Kraken and is not endorsed by Kraken. Using the public API does not make PERP KING a Kraken product. Access to derivatives depends on Kraken's own eligibility rules and on the law where you live.
Simulation does not use the trade key and places no exchange orders. It is described on Simulation.
Questions
Does PERP KING hold funds on Kraken?
No. Funds remain in the customer's own exchange account. The same is true on Kraken Futures, Binance Futures, OKX Perpetuals, Bybit, Bitget Futures and KuCoin Futures. LIVE orders go to the connected exchange, with a key the customer creates. PERP KING does not use withdrawal, deposit, or transfer endpoints.
Which Kraken key should I create?
A Kraken Derivatives key, not a spot key. For LIVE, set General API to Full Access and Withdrawal API to No Access. For a view of the account, use a separate key with General API set to Read Only and Withdrawal API set to No Access.
Will it close positions I opened myself?
No. Stop and the live manager act on positions PERP KING opened. Other positions on the account are left alone.
